LinuxWorld Boston in April Includes Negroponte as Keynoter

Execs from Microsoft, Dell, VA Software Also Scheduled

IDG World Expo has announced the keynote line-up for LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, which will take place April 3-6, 2006 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. During their keynote addresses, senior executives from athenahealth, Dell Inc., JBoss, Microsoft Corporation, MySQL, SugarCRM, VA Software and Zend will discuss how Linux and open source technology are actually being deployed in the IT infrastructure of major companies today, addressing key issues such as interoperability, enterprise applications, virtualization, innovation, cost savings and productivity gains.

Nicholas Negroponte (pictured), Chairman, One Laptop per Child (OLPC), will kick off LinuxWorld Boston on April 4 at 9:00 a.m. with a compelling address titled, “The $100 Laptop.” Dr. Negroponte, who is also Chairman of The Media Laboratory at MIT, first announced the $100 laptop at the World Economic Forum in January 2005. This new development, based on Linux, could revolutionize how we educate the world's children. Hear Dr. Negroponte expound upon the far-reaching ramifications of this revolutionary computer.

“Some have questioned the logic of personal laptops and suggested that community computing centers are a better allocation of resources,” said Dr. Negroponte. “Yet, one does not think of community pencils - kids have their own. They are tools to think with, sufficiently inexpensive to be used for work and play, drawing, writing, and mathematics. A computer can be the same, but far more powerful. The $100 laptop will be the first large-scale weapon in the fight against the digital divide, and a free Linux core makes it all possible.”

Bob Gatewood, CTO, athenahealth, will deliver a keynote address titled, "Mission-critical Open Source in a High Growth Enterprise" on April 4 at 1:15 p.m. Gatewood will give details about the infrastructure and integration of open and proprietary systems, and will provide lessons the company has learned in its eight-year history. His address will be especially interesting to enterprises considering the adoption of open source systems, as well as open source vendors and integrators serving those enterprises. athenahealth has built a $60M company on a mix of open source and proprietary solutions, and is adding more to the open source mix every day.
